Step back in time when you visit one of the largest and oldest forts in the UAE, Al Jahili Fort. Built out of sun-dried mud-brick, straw and palm-tree fibres, it was first erected in the early 19th-century as a symbol of power and as a summer home for the ruling family. Transformed into a cultural centre and tourist attraction, it now houses a temporary exhibition gallery as well as a permanent exhibition devoted to Sir Wilfred Thesiger.
